Moving city is mostly admin. This is the part that is not: finding the room where your team is on, in a country where your team is a foreign team.
1. There is a penya here, and it is official
Penya Blaugrana Amsterdam was founded in 2024 by Barça fans who wanted a home in the Dutch capital, and in October 2024 FC Barcelona’s board recognised it officially — the 74th penya in Europe outside Spain. That is not a formality with no consequences: official recognition is what lets members register with the club as penyistes and enter the ballots for away tickets.
Joining costs nothing. There is no fee, no card to buy and no minimum attendance.
2. You do not need to be Catalan, or Spanish
This is the question we get most, and the answer is genuinely no. Members are Dutch, Moroccan, Italian, Egyptian, Polish, Colombian, Catalan, Spanish and more. Conversation at the bar happens in whatever language the table has in common, which is usually English. What everyone has in common is Barça.
3. Where we watch
At PARCK aka Ping Pong Bar, in Oud-West. The match is on the main screen with the sound on. Turning up alone is normal — most people did the first time.
4. If you want to watch at home too
In the Netherlands every Barça match — LaLiga, Champions League and Copa del Rey — is broadcast by Ziggo Sport. The pick of each round is free to Ziggo customers on channel 14; everything else needs the paid Ziggo Sport Totaal add-on, which is sold on top of a digital TV subscription rather than as a standalone stream. 5. Register as an official penyista
Being in the WhatsApp group makes you part of the penya. Registering through the club’s penyistes portal makes you official with FC Barcelona itself, and that is the step that puts you in the draw when away tickets come to the penya. It is done on the club’s own site and we will walk you through it — ask in the group.
6. Two practical things
- Subscribe to the fixture calendar. Our calendar feed puts every Barça match into your phone in Amsterdam time and updates itself when kick-offs move — which they do.
- Get a scarf. The penya’s own scarf, flag and keychain are in the shop, and the scarf is the fastest way to be recognised by someone you have not met yet.
