A colla castellera is born in the Netherlands: first practice on 8 November in Utrecht

A colla castellera, a Catalan human-tower team, is being created in the Netherlands, and its first practice is on Sunday 8 November 2026, 14:00–16:00, in Utrecht. No experience is needed, and Penya Blaugrana Amsterdam, which wants to grow Catalan culture in Amsterdam, supports it.

Castells, the Catalan human towers, have been on UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2010. Now a colla is being created in the Netherlands.

After practice the group will go for some beers and a bite, to carry on with the social side of the day.

No experience needed

The colla says no previous experience is required. There are many different positions: from climbing the towers to being part of the pinya, the base that holds them up, and you can also play music. If you fancy it, just try it.

Why do we support it? The penya is about Barça, but it also wants Catalan culture to be felt in Amsterdam. A colla castellera is one of the best ways to do that: it is done as a team, outdoors, with people from everywhere.
